So I lean my head back and laugh

Let the rain fall across my face,

remind me that it’s okay

to set my own pace

Movies tell me to go to parties

get drunk and stay popular at all costs

My parents want me to study

“Prepare for college, or you’ll be completely lost”

But I’m more focused on today

My hair in a messy bun

The rush to get ready

so that I’m not late

For now,

everything else can wait.

I choose to welcome this moment in

let it take its coat off and stay

I know that soon,

this all will change

And the rain will never feel

exactly the same

as how it does today.
